My Microblading Experience

I’ve been getting so many questions from you girls regarding my Microblading Experience so I was super excited to finally get this post up and live for you to answer all the questions you have! I asked a few weeks ago on Instagram what you girls were looking for to be within this blog post so I hope I cover all of them! If I missed anything, feel free to leave a comment and I will respond back ASAP to you and also include it into the post!

I had the opportunity of getting my eyebrows done by the incredible Alison Smith Brows! Y’all… she is so talented and if you are in the Cleveland area, I highly recommend going to see her! I’m also super excited that she recently relocated to the salon I just got my extensions at, HeyDay Collective (the most beautiful salon in all of Cleveland!!!). I had my first initial microblading appointment with Alison in July and we then touched them up six weeks later at the end of August. I’ve added step by step of what you should expect!

Initial Microblading Appointment:

This is your first appointment where your artist will get a feel for what you are looking for and draw an “outline” of your eyebrows where they will be microbladed. This is when you can tell your artist exactly what you want and they can change anything before the microblading starts, be sure to be specific so you know you will love the outcome! Your artist will then microblade your eyebrows and this entire appointment usually takes around 1-2 hours to finish.

Aftercare of Initial Appointment:

The first day your brows are done, they are super dark and filled in. I personally love what they look like on the first day! I’m into super bold brows. They will fade and scab but you just have to make sure you aren’t picking and taking care of them (your artist should give you directions on how to care for them after your appointment!). I washed mine twice a day with baby soap (a very mild soap) and put an oil/moisturizer on them after each wash that Alison gave me.
It’s also important to remember that you should avoid exercise and sun exposure for the following two weeks after you get them microbladed. This will cause fading and you definitely don’t want that to happen! You can read more on Alison’s website about her Skin Prep + Post Care Instructions. It seems like a lot of care afterwards but it becomes a habit and something you just add to your morning/nightly routine. I think the hardest part for me was not picking off the scabbing when they were healing the first initial week but I got through it, lol.
I was so confused when my eyebrows started to fade after the first week but it’s so important to remember this is just part of the healing process. They color will start to reappear and they will be there again. I believe it’s the skin healing over the microblading since your skin needs to heal so it appears that you haven’t added any color but I can promise that they will come back! That was another thing I kept having to tell myself after the appointment… don’t freak out and text Alison! Around the end of week 2, my eyebrows were healed and no longer scabbing and I could see the color coming in with the shape.
Below you can see the before and after of my fist appointment with Alison. We cleaned up the lines of my natural eyebrows and kept it lighter since I knew we were going to go in during my second touch-up appointment and darken them up. I was seriously so excited for my second appointment with her! This is when my brows really got their shape and color that I was looking for. Alison always reminds her clients that microblading is not just a one-step process. The touch-up appointment is necessary and part of the entire process!

FAQ’s after my Microblading:

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a tattooing technique of the eyebrows where a small, handheld tool with needles is used to add permanent pigment to the skin/brows.

Was the Microblading painful?

I think this was the most-asked question that you girls asked me which is totally understandable because before my appointment, I was so curious as well! Alison uses the highest topical numbing cream that she can use so it made the appointment very comfortable and I wasn’t in any pain. My touch-up appointment, I could definitely tell there was more feeling than my initial appointment but she used the same numbing cream and I think it was just due to them being microblading six weeks prior.

How much does Microblading cost?

This will range from what artist you go to and also where you are located. Alison has an entire page dedicated to her pricing and policies, you can find here. Cleveland girls, highly recommend Alison! She is the sweetest and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you meet her. See some of her work on her Instagram page, @alisonsmithbrows.

How many touch-up appointments do you need?

The initial appointment and the second “follow-up” appointment are both mandatory in the microblading process. These two appointments are 6-8 weeks apart. After your second appointment, touch-ups are only necessary depending on the fading of your brows but they will range from 8-12 months after your brows are complete. The touch-up appointment prices are also located on Alison’s pricing and policies page!

How long do they last?

After your second appointment, they will last 8-12 months depending on the person. The more sun exposure they see, the sooner they will fade, and so on. I would say be prepared to “touch up” your brows every 8-12 months afterwards. (See previous question for pricing details)

Do you have to fill your eyebrows in still?

I actually was so surprised at how little I fill my brows in now. I’m so happy with the end result of them! The only time I find myself wanting to add a bit more pigment to them is when I am wearing my full-coverage foundation and it gets onto my brow area. I just take my brow pencil and brush them and add in color where I see fit. Overall, they are bold and pigmented and I couldn’t have asked for better results.

Would you recommend getting them done?

YES! I’ve been telling all of my girlfriends that it’s a must-do, in my opinion. I had very little brows and the color was super light so waking up everyday with a bold brow that I don’t need to draw on or shape is everything. Also it’s a time saver if you spend time shaping them daily and fussing over yours, like I did!
Top photo was taken the day after my second appointment with Alison. Middle photo was taken 3-5 days after my appointment, you can see some of the scabbing happening. Bottom photo was taken after a week of them being done and the scabbing is still there but less noticeable.

Second (Mandatory) Appointment:

My second appointment of microblading was exactly 6 weeks after my initial appointment. I knew this was where we were going to add darker pigment and make my brows a bit bolder than my first which was what I was looking for. I was extremely happy with my results and found that aftercare for my second appointment was a little easier than the first!
You see less fading since there is already a “layer” of the microblading done. I still noticed fading but it didn’t make me freak out or anything since I knew exactly what to expect. I added a photo (see above) of my brows healing afterwards. I followed the same care instructions as I did in my first appointment and I’m loving my brows! I can’t thank Alison enough, she is very talented!!
The photo above was taken about a week ago and shows my now healed brows after my second appointment. I am wearing no brow pencil or anything in this photo so you can see the color and shape is still there!
If you girls have any other questions regarding microblading or the process, feel ask away! I am happy to help in any way that I can. I hope you girls found this post helpful and useful. Also, Alison has an FAQ on her Instagram Page as well so be sure to check that out! xoxo

So much helpful information! I’ve been contemplating on microbrading but knew very little of it like the process and after care. Your brows look amazing and I love how little to no fill up is required on a day to day. One less thing to do. Thank you for sharing your experience!
