Food Series: Week 3 (Chocolate Chip Cookies)

Hey guys, it’s me again, Alex. Happy Labor Day weekend! Makayla & I had a cookout with her family yesterday so we made some cookies. She has told me it’s been a highly requested recipe since she posts them throughout the week. I figured this week we could keep it short and sweet (haha) since everyone might be busy this weekend. I know you can find a million recipes online for chocolate chip cookies but this is the one I follow and use all the time, hope you all love it!

Week Three: Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

– 11/4 Cup Brown Sugar
– 4 Tablespoons of Sugar
– 2 Cups of Butter
– 2 Eggs
– 3 Cups Flour
– 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
– 2 Teaspoons warm water
– 2 Tablespoons Vanilla Extract
– 2 Cups Chocolate Chips
– Pinch of Salt

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F. Take butter out prior to cooking these and allow it to get to room temperature before using. If you put the sticks in cold, it’ll just be clunky and hard to use. I always take them out a few hours before because it’s much easier to use.
Step 2: Put warm butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar in mixing bowl and mix together until it’s a paste-like texture. Add pinch of salt to balance out sweetness.
Step 3: Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time to the bowl and mix together.
Step 4: Mix 2 teaspoons of warm water and 1 teaspoon of baking powder until the powder dissolves. Do this in a separate bowl so the powder has time to dissolve, then add to mix.
Step 5: Once everything is coming together, add in a cup of flour at a time and allow it to mend together well before adding another.
Step 6: Mix in chocolate chips and mix until well incorporated. I usually add as much as I like, so feel free to add more than the recommended amount.
Step 7: Scoop cookie dough out and place on a non-stick cookie sheet and cook for 10-12 minutes. Keep an eye on them and when the bottom is browning, take out. Allow to rest on a cookie grate for 10-15 minutes so they don’t just fall apart.
I know everyone doesn’t have a KitchenAid Mixer, I didn’t have one when I first started these. Even though a mixer is a great investment since it’ll last you a lifetime, you can use a hand mixer or even a rubber spatula to mix everything. If you use a rubber spatula like I use to, make sure you really break down everything and leave no clumps. It’s a tad more tedious but it gives you the same result.
